The Cricut Maker can cut almost any material as long as it’s 3/32″ (or 2.4mm) thick or less, minus metal stock. Amazing right!? The overall cutting size is limited to 11.5″ x 23.5″, which really is the Maker’s only limitation.

I think the Cricut is totally worth it to almost anyone who loves to craft, as well as people like teachers (who have to cut out 30 whatevers for their students), moms (who want to personalize things for their littles), and even hobbyists (like model plane builders who want intricate decals).
Can the Cricut maker cut balsa wood?
The Cricut Maker cuts balsa wood quite well, and it’s by far the fastest of the Knife Blade materials that I’ve cut. Some users have also successfully cut balsa wood using the Cricut Explore and the Deep Cut Blade. Or, if you are really interested in doing more woodworking with your Cricut, upgrade to the Cricut Maker.
Can I cut chipboard with my Cricut maker?
Yes, but Cricut doesn’t recommend it and can’t guarantee results. If there are bad spots in the chipboard, it may damage the knife blade. If you want to try your own chipboard, just make sure that the thickness is under 2mm for the Explore Air 2 and under 2.4mm for the Maker.
