What material is best for templates?
I like to use MDF or tempered hardboard (both sides smooth). They are slick and allow for good adhesion of double stick tape and allow the router to move easily.
How do I make a template for something?
Create a template based on an existing template or document
- Click the File tab, and then click New.
- Under Available templates, click New from existing.
- Click a template or a document that is similar to the one that you want to create, and then click Create New.
What router bit to use for templates?
SELECTING ROUTER BITS. A flush trim bit, like one shown in the photo above, is the perfect choice for templates designed to fit beneath the workpiece. With a bearing at the tip riding against the template, a flush trim bit levels the edge of the workpiece to match. This same combination works in a router table as well.
What are router templates?
Router template guides fit into the base of your router and direct it along the edge of a template. They can be used to accurately rout the edge of your stock to a specific shape, to rout cavities and mortises, or even to accurately bore positioned holes.
